Randy Douthit started his directing career at KGW television station in Portland, Oregon, where he directed How Come, a children’s show. After this, he went to work for the talk show Seattle Today. His next move was to CNN. He worked on various television programs in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and New York. In 1982, he moved to the political debate show Crossfire.

Later in his career, he produced shows such as Fresh Prince of BelAir, Judge Joe Brown, and Jenny Jones. The Judge Judy show is one of his most famous works. For 25 years, he was the executive producer of this daytime television show.

Randy Douthit has been the recipient of many honors during the years. He has received many nominations for awards, including a small number of CableACE Awards.

He has won awards, including six Emmy Awards, six CableACE Awards, and two Peabody Awards. Judge Judy and Larry King Live are two of his shows that are now household names.
